SWCD Hosts Woodland Workshop
On September 16, the Will-South Cook Soil & Water Conservation District hosted over
30 visitors at the Issert Family Farm in Wilmington to learn about woodland
management. The farm, which is operated by Steve and Debbie Issert, includes over
100 acres of woodlands.
Steve, along with Jim Tresouthick, District Forester for the Illinois Department of Natural
Resources, and Christopher Hanley, Restoration Ecologist for the Forest Preserve
District of Will County, spoke to the group about timber stand improvement, managing
invasive species, and safety considerations while in the woods. The presenters spent
time answering many questions from those in attendance.
The program had something for everyone, from those with little forestry knowledge to
industry professionals. After a tour of the wooded areas on the farm, guests shared
lunch provided by the SWCD.
